SORRY I’M LATE

BASED ON A TRUE STORY.

It’s been a few decades between albums for me.

Busy in the background of living my life which included writing with and for other Artists - I decided a few years ago to step back into my own Artist shoes to share my songwriter eyes, heart, and voice. Songs by me, for me. A decision driven partially by my want to let people know that the Artist me didn’t end with my last album ;)

An ode to self discovery, “Sorry I’m Late” is a collection of journal entries that mark milestones I’ve gathered along the way. The narrative that runs through this album is life. The insights. The moments of awe. The losses. The lessons. The determination to continue on. Each song is based on something or someone that is or who has been part of my life. The songs are my heartfelt truths. Unapologetic truths. These songs were not written with the intention of meeting a premeditated goal, to fit a project criteria or with a worry about ‘what will sell’. There are no fillers or good enough’s on this album. I was led to each song, compelled to write its story.

Recorded at the historic Kensington Sound Recording Studio in Toronto, Canada, I’m grateful for the talented, dynamic musicianship and participation of people who are the heartbeat of this album -

Will Schollar - Producer, Arranger, Multi-Instrumentalist who made sure that each song had its own breath and was exactly what it needed to be
Mark Kelso - Drums / Percussion - my long time good friend and the rhythm to my songs since ‘way back when’
Kevin Fox - Cello, who created the hauntingly beautiful corners to the songs
Benjamin Pelchat - Mixing Engineer - for his ears, heart and friendship
Vezi Tayyeb - Mixing Engineer - for his humble generosity and kindness
Andy Krehm - Mastering Engineer - my former manager and former producer for his experience and insights
North Easton - Co-writer and a featured vocalist - who for all the many years we’ve written together, I always loved to walk beside in a song
... and to the late Michael Wrycraft (A Man Called Wrycraft) for the thoughtful album design - and who made sure to tell me repeatedly about the many heartfelt tears he shed over the songs on this album, and just how much he truly loved what I had created.

Many have contributed to making this album possible. A massive thank you to -
FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) who once again underpinned my recording journey; PR people Mavis Harris (NIce Marmot), Adam Bentley and the team at Auteur Research and Jane Harbury for getting the RBT word out to the world; Sara Franczyk (ZYK Marketing) who ensures people find me and my music; my wise confidant Stephen Stohn who sees something in me worth hanging in for all these years; Dale Peters my friend and advisor who believed enough to want to jump into the deep end of the pool with me; Pirkko Saari who caringly creates visual assets for my arsenal; Greg Sandford who happily jumped into a few raging fires for me; my talented video team who works tirelessly to make me look good ;) - Damon Pourshian, Mark Holtze, Mariam Hovsepyan, Kevin Sarasom, Tony Cicero, William Cabana-Marshall, Graeme Leung; Ryan Gransden, Kurt Rafil, Matt Levigne, Matheus Moreno; Post City; my daughter Taylor Thornley-Schollar for her eye and wonderful ability to orchestrate all things; Michael Thornley who continues to try to understand and endures this relentless quest of mine; to family and friends who love me for who I am; industry in-the-knowers who have rallied around me; and all the listeners who are experiencing this leg of my journey with me, I’m so fortunate to have the strength of this village.

My hope is that my music and I will reach and fit into people’s lives, everywhere. That my songs will resonate with people who are struggling with, to or from something. That my songs will tell their stories and pull people into a space that is healing, hopeful, familiar, inspirational, safe. That people will feel seen, comforted, moved, heard. Because truly, isn’t that what creating is all about?.

It’s been a while coming ...
Sorry I’m late ;)
