A tearjerking story of nostalgia and goodbyes is detailed in contemporary folk singer- songwriter Rosanne Baker Thornley’s newest single, “In Paris.”

Produced by UK producer and multi-instrumentalist Will Schollar, “In Paris” was released on March 25th, and his since earned Thornley much acclaim. Walter Price of Global Texan Chronicles says, “I truly love a great story song. Like the ones Gordon Lightfoot, Simon and Garfunkel, Harry Chapin, and Suzanne Vega used to drop on us. In the grand tradition of those hallowed names, singer-songwriter Rosanne Baker Thornley has released a powerfully delicate single, ‘In Paris’.” That’s pretty strong praise.

“In Paris” is a tender song that pulls on the heartstrings and forces you to hear the lyrics. “Don’t think, just take it in / It all goes by so fast,” Thornley sings over the picking of an acoustic guitar, weaving together an international tale of goodbyes and new beginnings.

Thornley details the inspiration for the song as, “...the telling of a trip to a city that I love, for the purpose of finding a wedding dress for my daughter. It’s the realization during this trip that this was the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. I remember thinking, ‘just take this in, because it all goes by so fast.’ ‘In Paris’ is the narrative of experiencing the past, the present, and the future, all in one moment.”

Thornley has earned herself quite the reputation as a songwriter throughout the years. Getting her start in the Canadian music scene, she has been the lead singer and songwriter for bands such as Daystar, Niteskool, and Bakersmith. Her widely-beloved album, Courage, (with Sony Music) has also earned her much acclaim and many a fan. She has also toured in and around North America and Europe, earning her the love of her audiences who connect to her honest lyricism and forthright music.

“My hope is that my music and I will reach and fit into people’s lives, everywhere. That my songs will resonate with people who are struggling with, to or from something. That my songs will tell their stories and pull them into a space that is healing, hopeful, familiar, inspirational, safe. That people will feel seen, comforted, moved, heard,” she says.

“In Paris” will be on Thornley’s upcoming album Sorry, I’m Late, due to arrive later in 2022.
